About the Artist/Site
In 1999 Stephen Wright, a stationary and textile designer who had been inspired by the work of French art environment builders Raymond Isidore (Picassiette) and Bodan Litnianski, decided to transform his house in the London suburb East Dulwich into a museum, the House of Dreams.
He gradually turned the ground floor and the garden of the house into a complete environment, decorated with large scale mosaics, constructions of papier maché and cement, compositions of found objects, decorated dolls, and more.
Inspired by such widely varied sources as angels, fairies, Mexican art, and, particularly, by the way other art environment builders succeeded in creating wonderful constructs through the use of ordinary and discarded materials, Steve Wright has developed his own style.
The museum, which has been bequeathed to UK’s National Trust, can be visited by appointment. Please contact the artist at: steveparis50@yahoo.co.uk.
